Cider & Juices

Is Mayer Brothers’ cider pasteurized?

Yes, Definitely! For years before the FDA demanded it, we’ve been pasteurizing out products, using flash pasteurization. We currently use two types of pasteurization.

For our cider, we use flash pasteurization, in which we heat the cider to 165°F for 15 seconds and then immediately chill it to below 40°F.

For our other Apple juice products, we pasteurize at 185-190°F and fill our bottles at this temperature. The product is then slowly cooled to form a vacuum packed product.

What is pasteurization?

Pasteurization is a process that kills any microorganisms that could cause illness if consumed, usually involving the heating and subsequent cooling of a food product.
